FALL SPORTS ROUND-UP
CROSS COUNTRY: Michael Perry continued to rack up impressive championships
as the senior won the district and regional championships on the way to a
3rd place finish in the state meet in Columbus. The third place finish is
a new school record, besting his 2005 seventh place finish. Perry had the
best time of any FAVC runner during the regular season with a 15:32:00 time
in the Lakota Fall Classic. (That time was 33-seconds better than the second
best time recorded by an FAVC runner.) Joe Booker, Byron Toran, Aaron Nightingale,
and Jimmy Peters also contributed to the overall tem success. Liz Steinway
and Sam Kramer participated for the girls and both turned in fine performances,
particularly at the Eaton and Harrison invitational meets.
FOOTBALL: Coach Troy Everhart’s Warriors earned a piece of
their second division championship in three years while posting a 6-5 overall
record (3-2 in the FAVC-Buckeye Division). Warrior victories were recorded
against Wilmington, Akron Tallmadge, Dayton Colonel White, Harrison, Anderson,
and Loveland. The Warriors were rewarded with a #3 seed and home game in the
state playoffs against New Carlisle Tecumseh. The Warriors fell to the visiting
Arrows 14-13 on a cold night at Fredrick Stadium. Senior running back Hosea
Simpson established a new school career rushing record of 3,963 yards, breaking
the old mark of 3,788 held by present Green Bay Packer Brandon Miree. Other
record breaking performances were turned in by Nate Spencer (8 for 8 PAT’s
vs. Wilmington) and Taylor Bradley’s 151 receiving yards against Anderson
established a new single game record.
GOLF: The boys golf squad recorded a 3-9 record, earning wins over
Purcell Marian, Mount Healthy and Little Miami. The Warriors also lost extremely
close matches to Finneytown, Taylor and Glen Este. Brian Davis had the squads
best average with a 43.21, good enough to finish 13th in the Buckeye Division.
Other golfers who participated included: Jason Doan (45.19), Steven Cleary
(47.08), Jason Koeninger (49.95), Tommy Murrell (50.52), Justin Chaney (51.30),
Dan Rodgers (51.65), Ben Steinhauer (53.23), James Rice (55.14) and Josh Vogelsang
(58.13).
BOYS SOCCER: The varsity Warriors finished their season with a 6-7-4
record (1-4-0 in the FAVC-Buckeye Division) with the victories coming against
Middletown, North College Hill, Amelia, Reading, Withrow and Glen Este. The
contests against Taylor, Roger Bacon, Cincinnati Christian and Norwood ended
in ties. Luke Spencer finished 7th in the division in scoring with 15 points
while goalkeeper Jeremy Horig recorded four shutouts, the third best mark
in the division. Tyler Poplin finished with seven points, Kyle Senger with
six points, Joel Mindoza and Joe Booker both finished with four points, Michael
Day had three points while Zach Campbell and Oliver Velez each finished with
two points each.
GIRLS SOCCER: Coach Dave Clark’s Lady Warriors defeated Deer
Park 4-3, North College Hill 10-1, Wilmington 6-0, St. Bernard 5-0, Little
Miami 5-4 and Western Hills 8-1 enroute to a 6-9-2 record. The ties came against
Edgewood (0-0) and Glen Este (1-1). Senior Shauna Smith’s 19 goals plus
nine assists gave her 47 total points and led the FAVC-Buckeye Division. Fellow
senior Donielle White finished third in the division in assists with 11 and
finished in fifth place with 27 points. Justine Johnson contributed 24 points
and finished eighth in the divisional scoring race. Other Lady Warriors to
score included: Ciara hale (seven points), Megan Hein (six points), Hope Monroe
(five points), Melanie Medina and Kari Campbell with four points, Brittany
Robertson, Nakeisha Alexander and Charmaine Neeley with three points each,
Brianna Dennis recorded two points while Richelle Goree, Marti Henderson and
Mallory Barnes each had an assist for one point.
GIRLS TENNIS: Coach Angelina Kuhlmann’s Lady Warriors battled
their way through the season and finished with a 7-7 record with victories
over Reading (twice), Deer Park, Taylor, Northwest, Glen Este, and Norwood.
Co-captain Sable Gray played First Singles, finishing with a 10-8 regular
season record and earning a fourth place finish in the Buckeye Division championships.
Nina Booker played Second Singles finishing at 9-7 and also placed in fourth
at the championships. Playing at the Third Singles position, fellow co-captain
Matiza Abernathy lead the Buckeye Division with a 12-7 regular season record
and also finished fourth in the Buckeye Division tournament. Other Lady Warriors
included the First Doubles team of Janice Boyd and Shannon Samuel and the
Second Doubles team of co-captain Brittany Brown and Desirae Bedford.
VOLLEYBALL: The Lady Warriors posted a 7-14 regular season record.
Coach Jeff Merrill’s squad defeated Norwood, North College Hill (twice),
Mount Healthy (twice), Ross, and Shroder Paidea. Chazity Bush led the squad
with a 39.2 “hit percentage”. Other Lady Warriors that contributed
included: Angel Edwards, Tina Karish, Tess Hackett, Katilin Stewart, and Ellie
Nightingale.
FALL SPORTS AWARDS – MONDAY, NOVEMBER 13TH
All Warriors student athletes who participated in fall sports (with the exception
of football) will be honored on Monday, November 13th at the annual Fall Sports
Awards Program, hosted by the Winton Woods Athletic Boosters. The evening’s
ceremonies will begin at 7:00 pm in the high school cafeteria with the doors
opening at 6:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served, compliments of the
Athletic Boosters. Please mark your calendar and plan on attending to show
your support and appreciation of all our young men and women. (Football players
will be honored during the annual football banquet. Contact the athletic office
and/or Coach Everhart at 619-2425 for more details.)
BASKETBALL “WARRIOR MADNESS” – TUESDAY, NOVEMBER
21st
The annual “Warrior Madness Night” is scheduled for Tuesday, November
21st at 7:00 pm and acts as the unofficial start to the 2006-07 basketball
seasons for both the girls and boys basketball squads. Admission is either
$1.00 or two canned goods per person with all proceeds going to S.O.U.L. Ministries
food pantry in Springdale. Both squads will be introduced and will participate
in “friendly” competition while the Winton Woods High School “Pep
Band” and “Drill Team” is also scheduled to entertain. Please
plan on attending this enjoyable and worthy community event.

athletics. Each sport (boys and girls) has it’s own link and the site
contains photos, team schedules and rosters as well as information concerning
the Athletic Hall of Fame, on-line “Spirit Shop”, sportsmanship
and directions to other FAVC schools. This site is updated on a regular basis
and tries to provide as much information as possible about Winton Woods High
School athletics.

official website of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference (FAVC). Official statistics,
Player of the Week profiles, driving directions to member schools and much,
much more can be found here. Like the athletic boosters website, the FAVC
updates their site on a regular basis.
www.ohsaa.org is the official website of the Ohio High School Athletic Association
(OHSAA). This site is a great resource for getting information concerning
member schools throughout the state of Ohio, rules and regulations for all
OHSAA sanctioned sports, eligibility and sportsmanship issues and concerns
as well as tournament and play-off information.
