FALL SPORTS ROUND-UP

FOOTBALL:  Coach Everhart’s Warriors have compiled a 3-1 record with victories coming against Roger Bacon (44-7), Fairfield (27-12) and Dayton Marshall (formerly Colonel White) (21-12).  The lone loss was on opening day to nationally ranked St. Xavier in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown at UC’s Nippert Stadium.  Winton Woods is currently ranked #3 in The Cincinnati Enquirer’s Division II-VI poll and heads into a tough three-game road stretch with games at Edgewood, Anderson and longtime rival Harrison.  Sophomore quarterback Dominique Brown is fifth in the Buckeye Division in passing yardage (230 yards) and in rushing yardage (419 yards).  Junior Chaz King leads the Buckeye Division in fumble recoveries with three.  Team wise, the Warriors lead the Buckeye Division in total defense (191.3 yards per game), rushing defense (116.8 yards per game) and passing defense (74.5 yards per game).  The annual homecoming game is scheduled for Friday, October 12th against new FAVC Buckeye Division member Milford.  Senior Night will be celebrated on Friday, October 26th versus the Glen Este Trojans.  The Warriors are looking to claim another FAVC Buckeye Division championship, along with a spot in the Ohio Division II playoffs so your attendance and support will be greatly appreciated!

GOLF:  The Warriors have posted a 2-9 overall record (1-4 in the FAVC Buckeye Division) with the victories coming over Cincinnati Christian and Glen Este.  The Warriors have dropped divisional contests against Harrison, Anderson, Milford and Loveland and have lost close decisions to Roger Bacon (173-175) and Edgewood (182-183).  Brian Davis’ 43.57 average leads the team and places him in the Buckeye Division’s “Top Twenty”.  Veterans Steven Cleary (45.74 average), Jason Koeninger (46.19), Jason Doan (46.32) and Danny Rogers (46.81) also have helped with leadership roles.  Contributions have also come from returnees Justin Chaney and Tommy Murrell as well as from newcomer Mark Sneed.  Coach Tilton’s squad looks to finish strong with a good showing in the upcoming FAVC championships on Tuesday, September 25th at Weatherwax Golf Club in Middletown.

BOYS SOCCER:  Coach Donnie Gillespie’s Warriors are nearing the halfway point of their schedule and have bolted out to a 5-1-1 overall record (0-1-0 in the FAVC Buckeye Division).  Victories have been registered against:  Middletown (3-0), Taylor (3-1), North College Hill (7-0), Cincinnati Christian (4-0) and Clark Montessori (2-1).  The tie (1-1) came at Roger Bacon.  Four Warriors are in the Buckeye Division’s “Top Twenty” for offensive output:  #3 Luke Spencer (5 goals + 3 assists = 13 points), #5 Oliver Velez (4 goals + 2 assists = 10 points), #17 Tyler Popolin (3 goals = 6 points) and #19 Jay Barnes (2 goals + 1 assist = 5 points).  Defensively, goalie Kyle Day has recorded two shutouts.  There are still four home contests left on the schedule and the Warriors could really use your support in order to remain undefeated at Fredrick Stadium.  The remaining home games are against Milford (Monday, 9/24), Norwood (Tuesday, 9/25), Northwest (Monday, 10/8) and Glen Este (Thursday, 10/11).

WARRIOR CARD “BLITZ DAY” – A RECORD BREAKING EFFORT!!!!

Sponsored by the Winton Woods High School Athletic Boosters, the annual Warrior Card “Blitz Day” had in excess of 200 Warrior student-athletes canvassing school district neighborhoods on Saturday, August 18th selling the Warrior Card for just $10.00.  According to Athletic Director Herb Woeste, the ‘Blitz Day’ took in record $7,283 and the total has since climbed to over $8,200!  The card can be used at sixteen different businesses throughout the area and using the card just a few times more than pays for the cost of the card via the discounts that are offered.  This is the single biggest fund raising activity that the Athletic Boosters sponsor and the support shown will go a long way towards helping the athletic department to continue offering quality equipment and facilities to our young men and women.  If you haven’t purchased a Warrior Card yet, you can still do so by contacting Mr. Woeste in the athletic office at 619-2422.  Again, THANK YOU for your support!  (Final figures should be available in November.)
