Sportsmanship

Good sportsmanship is an integral part of the educational value provided by extracurricular competition. This is the ultimate lesson with which the Winton Woods High School Athletic department wishes to educate its student-athletes, support groups and parents/guardians. If the focus is lost then the extracurricular activities are not worth sponsoring.

Sportsmanship is something everyone should display. Too often we are concerned that it is not being practiced by other schools' student-athletes, their support groups and their parents/guardians. The actions of everyone involved will be remembered long after the competition is completed, and with more impact than the final score.

The basic rules of good sportsmanship consist of:
Understanding and following the rules of competition
Showing respect for officials and their decisions
Showing respect for opponents and their skills
Maintaining self control at all times

Winton Woods High School will hold its student-athletes, support groups and parents/guardians accountable for good sportsmanship.

Failure to comply with the rules of good sportsmanship could result in the
following disciplinary action:

A warning--verbal and/or written
Denial of participation for the student-athletes
Removal from the premises of any unsportmanlike individuals
